Large Hadron Collider - The Search For The Higgs [2 of 3]

Uploaded by: Gravitationalist
Video Description:
On November, 2007 the most complex scientific instrument ever built will be switched on. The Large Hadron Collider promises to recreate the conditions in the early universe. By revisiting the beginning of time, scientists hope to
unravel some of the deepest secrets of our Universe.
Within these first few moments the building blocks of the Universe were formed. The search for these fundamental particles has occupied scientists for decades but there remains one particle that has stubbornly refused to appear in any experiment. The Higgs Boson is so crucial to our understanding
of the Universe that it has been dubbed the God particle. It explains how fundamental particles acquire mass, or as one scientist plainly states: "It is what makes stuff stuff..."

I think the comment made by LaEsperanzaPaz applies well your remark, ClanRewired. Obviously my mention of God was aimed at the pantheist(?) whose misunderstanding of the LHC experiments I was correcting. It seems to me that educating people in science is a better use of one's time than fruitless remarks on religious disagreement. Even if you and I disagree on the reasons for pursuing science, can we not agree on benefits of doing so?

OK I hadn't read the remark you were replying to. I do agree with you on most of your points, and we can even disagree on the reasons for persuing science, however, it isn't very helpfull to describe our efforts to understand the universe as puny. But I stand corrected, I should've read the comments farther back, the comment structure on YouTube is rather messy and it isn't always obvious who is responding to what. I don't get why LaEsperanzaPaz' comment applies to my remark though. / Friends?

Actually Peter, I was too hasty, and should've read what he was responding to, his last remark makes perfect sense that way. It's rather confusing sometimes this commentstructure YouTube applies, it's not always apparent who is responding to what. So let's commend him for trying to set those straight while speaking their language. (I wonder what your favourite beer is though...)

Haha actually, my youtube name is "PeterLowenbrau" because Peter Griffin's middle name is Lowenbrau, and I am obsessed with family guy. My name isn't Peter at all, and I've never had Lowenbrau (although I hear it's great).

The LHC will prove the higgs boson, this explains why we are here and how the universee came to exist out of nothing. This machine will be the anti-god.
Let me just explain ... ( 2 months ago by Anoninfinity)
Let me just explain to some people that wonder how they will 'recreate' the moment after the 'big-bang'. As Einstein's theory of Energy equals mass E=mc2. Alot of Mass generates alot of Energy, This.. allso works the other way around. Alot of energy makes alot of mass. It has allready proven that SPEED and HEAT is energy. Thus thay will hit protons at lightspeed and 20 billion degrees celcius together, to create a fraction of hidden mass. There as far as scientists know is no limit to energy

Transformer glitch shuts down biggest atom smasher
GENEVA - The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch to great fanfare, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week. In a statement Thursday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported for the first time that a 30-ton transformer that cools
part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up last week.

don understand all the hype. If this experiment works, all it's doing is giving religion less to explain that's all. But it's not an antigod. I don think any of the religious books will hav to change bcos of this experiment.

Wow...this is child's play. The complexity of matter was obeying uniformed behavioral laws in the beginning...Why? why didn't energy and heat instantly make matter and then destroy it. People they can build as many big fans as they want. you can call it whatever. Its bad science and fundamentally flawed. it's simple probability...

" is giving religion less to explain that's all." Religion explains everything until the truth is found out... Then either religion gets updated or (like in the case of evolution) some religious zealoths want to refuse all of the interesting new knowledge...

this will be a remarkable breakthrough for both technological and moral standards as we know them. To answer mlf8986's question: The actual collision was planned on 24 october. And there were 3 tests scheduled before the actual collision, one of these was on 10 september, which was a success, but the taking down of the particles caused a hydraulic to pop, now they're waiting for the energy levels and heat to drop, it takes a while to cool down 10 billion degrees, they calculated a month.
